How to Write a Compelling
Bio Box
If
you thought that your task as an article writer to create an "eye-popping"
article was over, think again! If you want to attract your reader to visit
your website, it is not enough to include your links in the body of the
article. Chances are, your readers will not click on the links at all.
The best way to generate leads is to develop a compelling
resource box or bio box at the end of your article. This is the box where
you can freely promote yourself and your business, and capture your reader's
interest. It is also a way to establish your credibility as you describe
your professional background in your field of business.
Writing an effective resource or bio box is like writing
your article. You need to come up with something that is interesting and
informative, remembering to limit it to a small paragraph — 50 words
or less is ideal. To maximize your resource or bio box, here are some
important items to include:
- Name and title. It's important that
the reader know who the author is.
- Develop a sales pitch. Come up with
one to three sentences that encompasses the unique features and benefits
of your products or services.
- Include the URL of your web site.
After reading your compelling resource/bio box, chances are the reader
will visit your site.
- Have a "call to action."
Do you want your reader to visit your website, subscribe to a free report,
or purchase particular products? Make it clear to your readers exactly
what action you want them to take after reading your resource box.
- Include a photo. If you really want to make a statement
to your readers, you might even include a photo of yourself. Just be
sure to limit it to a guideline of 80 - 100 pixels in size.
- Careful with email addresses. If
you want to include your email address, you can deter spambots from
harvesting your email information by disguising it (e.g., jane at janedoeservices
dot com) or providing the text only without an active link. A better
recommendation is to funnel readers to a contact form on your web site
(you don't want to provide too many options or you actually reduce your
contact/call to action conversion rates).
