Productivity —
Hit the Right Note with OneNote®
Imagine
this nightmare: binders in every size and color filling up shelf upon
shelf, three-hole punches spilling paper-hole cutouts all over your desk,
paper and more paper, sticky notes plastered over every square inch of
your workspace, handwriting that only a doctor could love, project data
located who knows where...
Now, imagine you have an electronic three-ring notebook
that captures text, scanned documents, data from websites or electronic
files with the source or URL automatically included, audio, video, meeting
notes, images, and more all in a single location.
Think that would make a difference in your office? Your
attitude? Your ability to find something easily and efficiently?
Microsoft’s OneNote® is just this tool! It acts like a three-ring
binder on your computer. It's part of the integrated system of Microsoft
products that makes it easy to gather and share your notes or data with
others or to simply have it all in one place. OneNote® is set up with
sections and you can create subsections and pages to organize your projects,
client work, school work and anything else your heart desires.
You can copy and paste from Word, Excel and Powerpoint. The program is
easily customized to meet your requirements, too. For example, say you
are on a client call and would like to capture the information. Instead
of grabbing for random pieces of paper or the back of an envelope —
and not knowing where these might eventually end up — you simply
open OneNote®, go to that client’s section (tab) and starting
typing or taking notes.
One of its features allows you to place your cursor anywhere on the page
and just start typing — no tabbing necessary! As you take notes,
you can right-click on a line of text to add a status flag to it. These
are colored graphics that help you to quickly return to reminders, tasks,
to-dos, and notes. And, you can customize the flags to meet your needs.
If you're in a business conference and your laptop has sound/recording
capabilities, simply hit *record* and OneNote® will capture the audio.
You can add text notes as the program records the audio. You can also
capture video for presentations.
Want to capture the information as a task, calendar event or contact?
You can select text, hit Tools, and create an Outlook item (i.e., a calendar
event, task or contact.) You can link notes between contacts to prepare
for appointments. In addition, you can add the meeting notes from a calendar
appointment directly into OneNote® that includes the actual Outlook
calendar information.

It is also possible to share your session, use drawing tools, and lots
more. OneNote® is a brilliant way to get organized and stay organized,
build teamwork opportunities, capture vital information, organize sharing
sessions with whiteboard capabilities, and not have to lick those hole
replacements!
How cool is that? Not only cool, but efficient.

are the best ways to reach and connect with them? These questions and
more will be answered at our next VACOC Guest Expert Teleseminar on Thursday,
