A Note from Danielle...
Happy New Year! Being an action hero, I'm not one much for resolutions.
I'm more of the "just do it" type when it comes to accomplishing
things. But I do love the feeling of renewal, fresh starts and exciting
new possibilities that each new year brings. And there's so much to look
forward to... a recovering economy, lots of positive changes on all kinds
of fronts, continued personal growth and learning for each of us... I
don't know about you, but I think 2010 is going to be fabulous!
Yours in goodness and success :)

Tasks to Get the New Year Off Right
Naturally,
the start of the New Year is the perfect time to take care of wrap-ups,
updates and various and sundry spitting-and-polishing. So I and a few
of my Virtual Assistant members of the VACOC have a few tips to help you
get the new year off on to a great start!
1. Prep your calendar for the coming
year. Block out all holidays, vacations and any other dates you
plan to be closed. Enter all recurring meetings and appointments, as well
as important dates and reminders.
2. Update copyright notices.
Go through any and all websites and blogs you manage and make sure your
copyright and other notices are current and up-to-date for the new year.
3. Purge your paper file drawers.
Get rid of clutter and free space by tossing out anything outdated or
that you rarely (if ever) reference.
4. Bundle up your 2009 business
income and expense receipts. Put these in a banker's box for
storage. Hopefully, you or your Virtual Assistant will have already been
recording these throughout the year in an accounting software like Quickbooks
Pro so that all you have to give your accountant is a CD instead of a
shoebox. Trust me—your accountant will love you for not doing that
to him or her.
5.
Update passwords. To help stay secure online, it's a good idea
to change your passwords every 3-6 months. The new year is a perfect time
to start this good habit. —contributed by Carol
D'Annunzio, Divine Virtual Assistance.
6.
Review and update your online profiles. Upload a new photo to
keep things interesting and make sure your contact information in all
major social networks is current and accurate. This is something right
up a Virtual Assistant's alley. —contributed by Victoria
Miles, Virtual Assistance Argentina
7.
Back-up and archive email files and computer data files. File
by client and then by year, keeping the current year files in the top
level. You could then also burn a CD for each client so that you can purge
your computer files and store the CD in the client's physical files. —contributed
by Janica
Smith, Adminismith Virtual Assistants
8.
Update/purge your contacts database. Import all those loose business
cards hanging around. This is the perfect task for getting help with from
your Virtual Assistant. —contributed by Carol
D'Annunzio, Divine Virtual Assistance
9.
Draft your budget and financial goals for 2010. Go through 2009
expense categories and totals to see what you should plan for. Be sure
and add any new categories (e.g., training budget) that came up inadvertently
last year so you can plan in advance for them this year. You might want
to increase certain categories by 10-20 percent. Create new folders each
for 2010 income and 2010 expenses to start filing all related receipts.
That way, everything is in one place come tax time. —contributed

Moleiro, VIP Assisting
10.
Evaluate last year's marketing strategies. Make note of the efforts
and activities that worked (and resolve to do more of them) and those
that weren't successful. Map out a plan for implementing strategies you've
yet to try (e.g., social networking, ezine, etc.) and evaluating those
results. —contributed by Amber

RESOURCE: Be sure to consult
with your Virtual Assistant. She or he can help with so many of these
tasks, if not entirely, at least significant aspects of them, saving you
a lot of time and bother so you can focus on other things.
